Our extra-curricular highlights
Debating and public speaking
CWPS students have many opportunities to participate in debating and public speaking and are supported by their teachers to develop confidence and skills in these areas.
Building Leaders Through Debate
Over the years, students in Stage 3 at CWPS have had the opportunity to compete against schools in our local area, and we are proud to have been champions of our local community through these debates.
Participating in debating helps students build confidence in speaking, improve their ability to communicate ideas clearly, and develop critical thinking skills by analysing issues and forming strong arguments. It also teaches respect for others’ opinions and encourages polite discussion. Debating not only enhances students’ skills but also supports their growth into confident, respectful, and thoughtful leaders, both now and in the future.
Empowering Young Voices
At CWPS, we believe that developing public speaking skills from a young age helps our K-6 students grow into confident and effective communicators. Our school’s public speaking competitions give students the chance to practice speaking in front of others, share their ideas clearly, and listen respectfully to their classmates. These experiences boost their self-confidence, encourage active participation, and help them feel proud of their accomplishments. It’s a fun and supportive way for young students to learn important skills that will benefit them now and in the future.
We are also excited to introduce the new Metropolitan South and South West Sydney Public Speaking Competition, which offers our students a larger platform to shine. Participating in this regional event allows students to meet peers from different schools, challenge themselves, and develop leadership skills in a positive environment.
These opportunities inspire our young learners to discover the power of their voice, helping them grow into confident, respectful, and thoughtful individuals ready to take on new challenges.
Music and Performing Arts
At CWPS, every student participates in a specialist music lesson each week, with further opportunities to participate in the Instrumental Music Program, which provides private lessons with specialist tutors and opportunities to join an array of musical ensembles and performances. The school also participates in Symphonia Jubilate, an inter-school orchestra, and has a specialist music teacher to support our programs.
Classroom learning
Every CWPS student participates in a specialist music lesson each week, learning to sing, play, read, write, create and listen to music.
Instrumental Music Program
Students are offered the opportunity to join the Instrumental Music Program. The program is designed to foster students’ musical abilities and love of music. Being a member of the Instrumental Music Program provides a unique opportunity for your child to learn an instrument, experience the joy of performing, and develop important teamwork skills. Students participate in ensemble rehearsals as well as private instrumental lessons outside school hours. Specialist tutors are employed to teach these lessons.
Excursions and in-school events
Our students are given opportunities to participate in a range of excursions and in-school events. These experiences help them grow, build confidence and see how their learning connects to the world. Excursions take place throughout the year for all stages and are linked to learning in the classroom.
Excursions may include trips to places such as:
- historic houses
- museums
- environmental education centres
- field trips
- walking excursions
- sport and recreation centres
In-School events may include activities such as:
- author visits
- science programs
- creative arts programs
- road safety programs
“My girls couldn’t be happier at Concord West Public School. What we love most is the friendly environment and community spirit that connects families, teachers and students, as well as the extensive, professional music program, and the many special opportunities students get throughout the year, whether it be music performances, public speaking events, or trying out different sports in the SISA program. Our teachers are fantastic, and always happy to communicate with parents. It is a really diverse and dynamic school with a big heart.”
